Multiplication - Cultures

In multiplication and cultures grade fine is used mostly, sometimes medium.

properties:

  • strew substrate : plant seeds germinate better
  • rapid formation of roots
  • carrier for water and nutrients
  • offers a good balance between air and water
  • absorbs water till several times its own weight
  • chemically inert, non rotting, odourless and does not mould
  • free of germs
  • ecological effect
  • PH neutral till slightly alkaline depending on crude origin
  • contains nutrients like ammonium, potassium, calcium and magnesium.

A) Germination of seeds

Possible way of working:
Strew a thin layer over the seeds to obtain an ideal growing and germination climate.

B) Multiplication by cuttings

Possible way of working:
Place cuttings in a mixture of water and vermiculite until they take root. Afterwards plant them in a mixture of organic substrate and vermiculite.

C) Root separation

Possible way of working:
saturise fine or medium grade vermiculte with water. Place the separated parts in this mixture, condition warm and humid until they start to develop further roots. Take care that during planting, the pots offer sufficient drainage possibilities.

D) bulbous plants

Possible way of working:
devide the bulbs in the vermiculite in a cool, dry and dark place. Once sufficiently multiplicated, plant the bulbs.

E) Indoor Plants

Possible way of working:
a mixture of 50% vermiculite and 50% organic substrate will always create an airy and humid environment for the roots of the plants which will make sure they will remain in perfect shape.
